The Roots of Jazz
Lots of people love listening to jazz, and over the years it has had a massive influence on virtually every other kind of music too. And the story of the origins of jazz is a fascinating one. It traces right back to the gospel music sung by slaves, as they dreamt of freedom.
On Friday 24 January we’re very exciting to be hosting The Roots of Jazz (click on the link to see and hear clips). They are a six piece jazz band who’ll be entertaining us with an evening of classic jazz and gospel music. But through the music, they will also be telling that fascinating story of how jazz began. They’ll take us back to that cry for freedom on the cotton plantations. And we’ll see how gospel music ultimately celebrates the greatest freedom of all.
Tickets are £15, including a glass of wine and canapés. All proceeds from the event will go to Tamar. They are a charity working to help end modern slavery today, by reaching and supporting women (especially trafficked women) working in London’s sex trade.
